We did lots of different activities on our French day.
As part of our new topic we have been developing our map skills. We have been using atlases to find the country we live in as well as countries that we have visited on holiday. We have been learning the names of the oceans of the world and will be learning the different continents too.
This term we are learning all about traditional tales. We have read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood. We have been re-writing the story of The Gingerbread Man and have baked our own gingerbread biscuits. We have been investigating different materials, naming and describing them and making boats for the gingerbread man to cross the river.
We were lucky enough to have some special visitors in Class 2! One of our class mates very kindly brought in his butterflies that had hatched from caterpillars. We enjoyed setting them free. They didn't want to leave us at first, but as the weather warmed up they flew away!
We have been learning about springtime. We have been planting seeds and observing how they change as they grow and learning about lifecycles.
Spring Term 2 - Regal Royals
We have been finding out facts about Queen Elizabeth II and about Queen Victoria. We have written some fantastic information texts about them. We have also been exploring colouring mixing with paint and have started to make some super portraits of the Queen! We are now creating our own King, Queen, Prince or Princess and writing information texts about them.
Welcome to Class 2!
We are a mixed Foundation/Year 1 class. Our teacher is Mrs Walker and we have a full time Teaching Assistant (TA) called Mrs Clay. Mrs Hinchcliffe is in class on Mondays and Thursdays.
Spring Term 1 - Down on the Farm
.
Our first topic for the Spring Term was 'Down on the Farm'. We learnt about different farm animals and how they are cared for. We will also learnt where food comes from and we made some jam tarts using ingredients grown on farms. Take a look at the photographs below!
Homework and Reading
Homework is sent out every Friday. It is usually a literacy or maths activity which supports the learning from the week. Please ensure that homework is handed in by Wednesday at the latest.
The children will read twice a week in class but are encouraged to change their home reading book more regularly. Every day they will take their book out and place it in a yellow basket if they do not want to change their book and a purple basket if they do want to change their book. We encourage parents to note in their child's reading record when they have completed the book at home and are ready to change. Within the reading record are a list of high frequency words which the children also need to be able to read.
Spellings are sent out for the children in Year 1. They will be sent out on a Friday and tested the following Thursday. They are linked to the sounds covered in the daily Phonics lessons and also include a 'tricky' word.
PE
I
Indoor PE is taught on a Monday with Mrs Walker.
Outdoor PE is taught on a Friday with Mrs Walker and Mr Hayes.
Please ensure you have the correct PE kit and that long hair is tied back. Please also make sure that earrings are not worn to school on PE days.
With the weather becoming a lot cooler and winter drawing near, it is important that your child brings their full outdoor kit to school for our session on Friday. Please ensure you have your sweater and jogging bottoms in school each week.
Denzel the Donkey
Denzel is our class donkey! He likes to come for a visit on the weekends to have an adventure with different children from Class 2. He comes with his passport book for you to write or draw a little note describing what he has been getting up to. We look forward to hearing about Denzel's travels on a Monday when he comes back to school. Thank you for taking good care of him.
