with Miss Hall and Mrs Lawrence.
A big hello from Nursery.
We are having so much fun learning and exploring.
The days are busy and filled with countless opportunities to develop our skills.
Take a look at this week's activities...
(Don't forget to check back regularly to see what other wonderful activities we've been doing.)
Each morning we begin the day with either Wake Up Shake Up! Dough Disco or Digit Dance. These physical activities support the children's health and well-being as well as improving their gross and fine motor skills and co-ordination. Please see the link below for the rationales on these morning activities.
OUR TOPICS FOR THE FINAL HALF TERM ARE:
Weeks 1, 2, 3 - Holidays and Travel
Weeks 4 and 5 - Under the Sea
Weeks 6 and 7 - Pirates
We all took part in International Dough Disco Day (9th June at 10am) and performed our routine to the music of 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams.
OUR TOPIC FOR THIS HALF TERM IS 'MINIBEASTS'
We will be looking at the following stories each week:
Week 1: Hungry Caterpillar/Case of the Missing Caterpillar
Week 2: Munching Crunching Caterpillar
Week 3: The Very Busy Spider
Week 4: The Very Lazy Ladybird
Week 5: What the Ladybird Heard/Zoo Lab
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit from Zoo Lab today. We got to meet some amazing minibeasts including: Deidre the Land Snail, Michelle the Millipede, Kevin the Cockroach and Tracy the Tarantula. We learnt lots of interesting facts about them and even got to hold some of them.
At the end we got a special treat - meeting Sophie the Snake who is a 16 year old giant corn snake!
In P.E we experimented using our bodies to represent the different stages of the life cycle of a butterfly...
Meet our new friends - the caterpillars. We have named them: Poppy, Rhino (biggest), Branch, Fuzzy and Duddy (smallest).
Over the next few weeks we are going to watch them grow and change. We are observing them every day and creating a diary to track the miracle of metamorphosis before our very eyes.
Our learning will be focused around a different story each week:
Week 1: Mr Wolf's Pancakes
Week 2: Jack/Jasper and the Beanstalk
Week 3: Oliver's Vegetables
Week 4: Handa's Surprise and Mother's Day
Week 5: The Enormous Turnip
Week 6: The Easter Chick
Our Easter Eggstravaganza Workshop Day on Friday was so much fun. Take a look at all the eggciting activities we got up to...
The Easter Bunny hopped in on Thursday and asked us to do a very important job. We had to write a list of all the boys and girls in Nursery (using our best handwriting) so the Easter Bunny didn't miss anyone off. We did a brilliant job and the Easter Bunny granted us another visit on Friday for our Easter Eggstravaganza...
Over the past couple of weeks we have learnt lots about growing. We now know what plants need to live and have been monitoring our beanstalks and carrot tops closely. We decided to make cress heads this week and hopefully by next week they will have a full head of 'cress hair'.
We have enjoyed reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and Oliver's Vegetables and acting out the story with our friends.
We have used the construction area to make 'beanstalks' and measured them against our class beanstalk.
Our role play area is currently a flower shop and we have put our skills to great use - counting out flowers, counting money, working together with friends, taking on roles as customers and employees, writing labels, cutting ribbon and paper to wrap flowers in and solving problems like if the paper is too small or the bags are too big.
We shared our favourite stories with our friends, went on a 'Bear Hunt' around the classroom - acting out the story, painted pictures of our favourite characters and read stories in unusual places (climbing frame storytime).
A HUGE WARM WELCOME TO OUR NEW STARTERS!
Our themes for this half term are...
'Winter' and ‘Traditional Tales'
Each week we will focus on a different story:
Week 1: Gingerbread Man
Week 2: Little Red Riding Hood
Week 3: 3 Little Pigs
Week 4: Little Red Hen
Week 5: Chinese New Year (Year of the Rooster) is on the 28th January - this week we will be learning all about this exciting celebration
Week 6: The Ugly Duckling
Week 7: Goldilocks and the 3 Bears
We tried lots of yummy Chinese food including: prawn crackers, spring rolls, egg fried rice, egg noodles, sweet and sour sauce and black bean sauce.
We loved the noodles - they were our favourite. YUM!
Take a look at how busy we have been this week...
A MASSIVE WELL DONE TO ALL THE NURSERY CHILDREN FOR THEIR WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE!
WE ARE VERY PROUD!
Our themes for this half term are...
‘Celebrations' and 'Tell us a story'
During these topics we will be exploring: Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali, stories by the author Julia Donaldson and of course Christmas!
We have received a special visitor from the North Pole who will be keeping an eye on us throughout the month and reporting back to Santa on our behaviour.
Welcome to Nursery Ella the Elf!
I'm Stickman, I'm Stickman, I'm Stickman that's me!
Marks in the snow.
Whose are these footprints and where do they go?
But who is this creature with terrible tusks and terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws? He has knobbly knees and turned out toes and a poisonous wart on the end of his nose. His eyes are orange, his tongue is black and he has purple prickles all over his back.
OH HELP.....OH NO.....
Going Spotty for Children in Need!
Lest We Forget!
Take a look at our wonderful "Fields of Poppies" paintings for Remembrance Day.
We have been learning all about the festival of light through lots of different exciting activities. We shared the story of Rama and Sita and acted it out using masks. We explored rangoli patterns and made diva lamps from clay. We made beautiful multi-coloured lanterns and baked coconut barfi. We dressed up in Indian clothes and we even tasted a variety of Indian food!
