Welcome to the Darton Primary School website, which we hope you will find informative and exciting. We are a large school on the outskirts of Barnsley, in South Yorkshire. Barnsley is an area of regeneration and the logo ‘Remaking Barnsley’ reflects the commitment to the future.

I am proud to have been the Headteacher of this happy and welcoming school for nine years. We are looking forward to this academic year 2007/2008 in our new premises, which were built by PFI, as part of ‘Remaking Learning' in Barnsley. On the 21 June 2007 we moved into the new Darton Primary school after 97 years in the original building. The Mayor of Barnsley officially opened the school on 19 September which was celebrated by a massive balloon launch by the children. The facilities of the school include state of the art technology including wireless facilities and an IT suite. The sporting facilities are amazing with multi-use games areas for tennis, football, hockey, netball etc.

There are 292 pupils on role from 3 years to 11 years of age and we are a popular school. We are a successful school with a large teaching, support and administrative staff, committed to “Creating a Foundation for Future Success” and achieve high standards in end of Key Stage tests.

We have a supportive governing body representing parents and the local community, which is very involved in the life of the school.

OFSTED 2007 commented "In this good school pupils are happy and self-assured. They are socially responsible and abide by a good moral code. This means that they get on well with others, have
positive attitudes to school – attendance is above average – and they really enjoy
the fun of learning."
