Spring Curriculum overview

Our theme for this half term is...

Space

In Literacy we will be focusing on:

  • Using our phonic knowledge to write and read simple sentences and short narratives;
  • Positioning letters correctly when writing on lines;
  • Reading and writing lots of 'tricky' words.

 

In Mathematics we will be focusing on:

  • Use numbers to 20 and beyond;
  • Adding and subtracting numbers;
  • Saying one more than/one less than a given number up to 20;
  • Recognising, ordering and correctly forming numbers up to 20;
  • Talking about shape, space and measures.

 

Our focus stories for this term are:

  • Aliens Love Underpants,
  • Whatever Next;
  • How to Catch a Star;
  • The Hackney Martian;
  • Man on the Moon;
  • Beegu.

 

We will also be looking at art work created be Vincent Van Gogh and we will use his methods to create our own Starry Night master pieces.

 

We will also be listening to 'The Planets' composed by Gustav Holst.

Chinese New year celebrations

The Great Race - Chinese Zodiac | Folk Tale Time | A Cool School Folk Tale

An ancient folk story tells that Cat and Rat were the worst swimmers in the animal kingdom. To test this folk story, there was a The Great Race. Cats, rats, monkeys, pigs, dogs, and other animals had to swim across the river to prove who was the winner!

 Autumn Term 

 

We have a jam packed term where we will be focusing upon people who help us, communities, celebrations and festivals:

  • Bonfire Night;
  • Diwali;
  • Christmas.

 

We will be sharing stories written by Julia Donaldson. Our main books will be:

  • Room on the Broom;
  • The Gruffalo;
  • The Gruffalo's Child;
  • Stickman.

 

We will also be exploring Autumn time and the changes that occur in nature.

 

Our focus artists this term are Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock. We will use their methods to create our own master pieces.

In Literacy we will be focusing on:

  • Using our phonic knowledge to write simple words, labels, captions and simple sentences;
  • Forming letters correctly; 
  • Reading and writing 'tricky' words;
  • Showing our understanding of what we have heard through answering questions.

 

In Mathematics we will be focusing on:

  • Using numbers to 10;
  • Finding one more than/one less than a given number up to 10;
  • Recognising, ordering and correctly forming numbers up to 10;
  • Adding and subtracting numbers using objects;
  • Using shapes to create models;
  • Beginning to name 2D and 3D shapes; 
  • Using everyday language to explore time and also sequence familiar events.
