We are a class of Year 1 and Year 2 pupils and we are all very excited to be coming back to school. This year, our teacher is Miss Pearson.
Summer Term 1
Spring Shine
Topic
This half term, our topic is called Spring Shine. We will be focusing across subjects on the seasonal changes that take place during Spring. In Art we will be focusing on Vincent Van Gough and his famous Sunflower painting. In Science we will be looking at the life cycle of frogs, plants and flowers and how these have changed during Spring. In History we will be focusing on the seaside and how it has changed in the past 100 years. We will also be studying the Oceans and Continents in Geography to help us locate different seaside destinations.
Literacy- Writing
First, we will be looking at a story called Tad which is about the life cycle of a frog. We will use our knowledge from our Science lesson to help us retell the story of Tad.
A focus in all of our writing will be our handwriting which we will be targeting within specific handwriting lessons to improve. Children will also be set weekly spellings to expand their vocabulary further which will enhance their writing. In school we will also promote this through our Word of the Week initiative, which will encourage children to expand their knowledge of vocabulary.
Literacy- Reading
For the first half term we will be focusing on Tad and the Storm Whale as well as books by our author of the term Michael Rosen. We will also be using our VIPERSOC Owls to enhance our reading skills.
Maths
During the first half term we will be focusing on multiplication and division. We will then move onto fractions and applying our knowledge of half and quarter to everyday objects and finding a fraction of an amount of objects. Lastly, we will look at weight and volume.
In mental, maths, we will be focusing on:
Counting forwards and backwards starting on any number between 0-100
Counting in 2,5 and 10 (including odd and even numbers)
Learning and practising the 2, 5 and 10 times tables
