Welcome to Class 3’s page!
We are a class of Year 1 and Year 2 pupils and we are all very excited to be coming back to school. This year, our teacher is Miss Pearson.
Autumn Term 1
This half term, our topic is called Autumn Days. In Geography, we will be learning about our School and Local Areas. We will look at Darton and compare it to a village. In Science we will be looking at plants and identifying common garden plants and wild plants. We will also, be growing our own cress to understand the process of growing plants. Then, we will look at animals and the life cycles of frogs and butterflies. In art we are learning about Pablo Picasso and will be using his techniques to create a self-portrait.
First, we will be looking at fairy tales and using our knowledge of familiar stories to label the main characters and create lists of setting descriptions. We will be focusing on using capital letters for proper nouns and building up to writing detailed captions to accompanying pictures from a fairy tale.
A focus in all of our writing will be our handwriting which we will be targeting within specific handwriting lessons to improve. Children will also be set weekly spelling to expand their vocabulary further which will enhance their writing. In school we will also promote this through our Word of the Week initiative, which will encourage children to expand their knowledge of vocabulary.
For the first half term we will be focusing on Whiffy Wilson: The Wolf who wouldn’t go to School, Once Upon an Ordinary School Day and What are Germs? We will also be using our VIPERSOC Owls to enhance our reading skills.
During the first half term we will be focusing on place value followed by addition and subtraction. In place value lessons we will learn to count forwards and backwards to 20, write numbers to 20 in numerals and words, compare numbers using <, > and = and count in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s. In addition and subtraction lessons we will focus on number bonds to 10, addition fact families, comparing number bond families and adding number together.
In mental, maths, we will be focusing on:
