We are a class of Year 1 and Year 2 pupils and we are all very excited to be coming back to school. This year, our teacher is Miss Pearson.
Autumn Term 2
Fall to Frost
This half term, our topic is called Fall to Frost. In History we will look at the Gunpowder Plot. Focusing on who Guy Fawkes was and his part in the Gun Powder Plot. In Science we will be looking at everyday materials. We will also, be experimenting looking into what different materials are made of and will carry out some experiments. In DT we are looking at healthy eating and we will look at fruit and vegetables and make our own fruit fireworks.
First, we will be looking at information texts linked to Guy Fawkes. We will be creating our own information text on him using our knowledge from our History lessons. Then we will move onto stories with predictable patterned language before finishing the half term off with letter writing.
A focus in all of our writing will be our handwriting which we will be targeting within specific handwriting lessons to improve. Children will also be set weekly spellings to expand their vocabulary further which will enhance their writing. In school we will also promote this through our Word of the Week initiative, which will encourage children to expand their knowledge of vocabulary.
For the first half term we will be focusing on Who was Guy Fawkes, The Dark, Dark Night, Leaf and The Jolly Christmas Postman. We will also be using our VIPERSOC Owls to enhance our reading skills.
During the first half term we will be focusing on addition and subtraction. We will then move onto shape and money. In addition and subtraction lessons we will focus on number bonds to 10, addition fact families, comparing number bond families and adding number together. During shape lessons we will be learning to recognise basic 2D and 3D shapes and identify patterns of shapes. As we move onto money we will be focusing on recognising coins but also counting coins.
In mental, maths, we will be focusing on:
Counting forwards and backwards starting on any number between 0-100
Counting in 2,5 and 10 (including odd and even numbers)
Learning and practising the 2, 5 and 10 times tables
