Class 5 - Miss McNaught

Welcome to Class 5's page!

 

We are a class of year 3 pupils and we are all very excited to be coming back to school. This year, our teacher is Miss McNaught.

 

Autumn 1

Stone Age to Iron Age

Topic

This half term, our topic is Stone Age to Iron Age. In history we will be investigating the progression of society from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, focusing on the development of society. In science we will be learning about the different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. We will also be investigating different soils and how fossils are formed. In art this half term we will be creating cave drawings. We will experiment with different drawing implements and explore different tones, before creating our final piece. Finally, in Computing, we will be focusing on E-Safety.

 

Literacy - Writing      

First, we will be learning to write stories based on familiar settings using adjectives, similes, adverbs and other ambitious vocabulary. To do this we will focus on the story of Nigel Nit-Boy from The World's Worst Children by David Walliams. We will then move on to write a recount in the form of a letter.  Before the half term is complete we will also be focusing on information texts.

 

Literacy - Reading

 

For this half term we will be focusing on our reading skill of retrieval we will do this by looking at Stig of the Dump by Tony Robinson as our whole class text. We will also develop our knowledge and breadth of vocabulary during these sessions to help us improve our writing. 

 

Maths

 

During this half term we will be focusing on place value and addition and subtraction. We will use concrete materials to support our learning before moving onto more abstract questions. 

 

In mental maths, we will be focusing on: 

  • Counting on and back in 100s and 50s 
  • Counting on and back in multiples of  3, 4 and 8
  • Learning and practising the 3, 4 and 8 times tables as well as previously taught times tables (2, 5, 10)
