Welcome to Class 8!
We are a Class of 31 children; 6 Year 6 children and 25 Year 5 children who are taught by Miss Coe. Mr Hanson teaches us on a Wednesday morning. Miss Gracie and Miss Edwards sometimes support us with our learning. The Year 5's are lucky enough to spend a week improving their Bike Ability skills with a week's course in the Spring Term. Year 6's have the opportunity to visit Condover Hall, where we face lots of fears and spend time with our friends; and, in July, we get to put on a show-stopping leavers' production!
We work extremely hard in Class so that we can achieve our potential and develop good learning habits for our future. The curriculum that we follow is set out below:
Our Topic in Spring 1 is the toiling Tudors. In History, we will be learning all about the Tudor monarchs and how the Tudors changed Britain. Linked to this, in art, we will be learning to paint in the style of Hans Holbien to create Tudor portraits and in D.T. we will be learning textile skills to enable us to produce Tudor clothing.
Our key text will be Macbeth and we will be producing writing in a range of genres linked to this key texts.
In music, we will be beginning to focus on composing and notation skills and we will also be learning a unit on charanga. Our R.E. will focus on Buddhism and our Life Lessons sessions will focus on keeping a healthy body and mind. In French, we will be learning how to say where we live, what our house is like and who we live with.
There is a more detailed presentation on google classroom to explain our learning further and if you would like to help your child develop their learning further, they can complete the home learning tasks below:
Our first topic this year is CSI. We will become super scientists and conduct experiments to help us to learn about properties and changes of materials. We will then move on to study history where we will learn about gruesome methods of punishment that have taken place through time. In art, we will be studying the street artist Banksy and producing our own artwork in his style using a stencil technique. Our guided reading book will be 'Thief' by Malorie Blackman and we will be using this to inspire our writing work aswell. If you would like to explore our topic further, you can complete the optional homework activities from the grid below:
